Barbara Ann Richards, passed away peacefully on the 24th of September 2014 at her home in Houston surrounded by her loving family. She was born on the 13th of September 1933 in Kingsville, Texas, the eldest daughter of Myrtle Grace and Luther Lawrence Thompson. She was raised in Kingsville with brief time spent in Alice, Texas and Dequincy, Louisiana.
She met the love of her life, her husband of 64 years, Charles A. Richards when she was 12. They began dating when she was 16 and were married shortly after her 17th birthday in 1950. They moved to College Station where Charles was attending Texas A&M. They moved to Houston in 1952 and started raising a family. They had three children, David (1951 – 1971), Gail and Chuck. The family moved to Conroe in 1968 and then moved back to Houston in 1979.
Barbara worked with Charles in his business and was key to the success of C.A. Richards & Assoc., Inc. Her passions were her family, friends, travel, cooking, reading and dancing. She was a devoted friend, wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Barbara was preceded in death by her son, David Richards. She is survived by her husband, Charles; daughter, Gail Martin; son, Chuck Richards and wife Judy; sister, Jo Lynn Thompson; four grandchildren, Lauren Williams Stanko and husband Scott; Amy Jennings and husband John; Heather Jolovich and husband Danny; and Reed Richards. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Charley-Anne Ashworth and Lillianna Williams and countless friends and loved ones.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock this afternoon until seven o’clock this evening, Thursday, the 25th of September, in the parlor and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 26th of September, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons.
Immediately following all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
The family will gather for a private interment service at Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe, Texas.
