Barbara Nell Christopher Dennis, affectionately known as “Mot”, was born on August 2, 1955 to her loving parents, Jeff Davis and Dossie Mae Montgomery. She was the baby girl of 11 siblings. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ which was the foundation of her life.
Barbara attended school in the Houston Independent School District where she met the love of her life, Ivory Julius Dennis. They were united in holy matrimony on July 6, 1974. Blessed to their union were four precious gifts of life – Ivory, Keisha, Telley, and Alfonzo.
Whether you referred to her as Mama, Barbara, Mot, Granny Mot, or Paula, with an endearing heart she affectionately received it. Her hearts passion for nurturing, caring and serving others was a rarity. She exuded with compassion, patience, giving and unconditional love. She also loved to cook, play spades, kings’ corner and most of all she loved being with family. Being the nurturing person that she was afforded her the opportunity that many people are not fortunate enough to experience, which is to be loved and embraced by not only her immediate family, but by a community of honorary daughters, sons, grandkids, and many others. With spice, sassiness, and a relatable persona, she was able to foster relationships tailored to each one of those individuals. Since being a caretaker was second nature for her, it was easy to see how it was an honor, privilege and joy to unselfishly put others needs before her own. She characterizes the importance of being a mother and grandmother. No matter what you needed from her – conversation, hugs and kisses, recipes, or a meal she was there despite how she was feeling she was always ready to be of service.
Hebrews 6:10” God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people “.
