An incredibly kind, compassionate and highly accomplished young man whose humanity shone through every aspect of his life, Austin Chen passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on October 31, 2022.
Austin was born on November 22, 1989, in Houston, TX. He attended Grace School for his elementary and The Kinkaid School for his middle school till 9th grade. He then attended Seven Lakes High school from 10th through 12th grade. At the age of five Austin began playing the piano, demonstrating a remarkable talent that led to multiple awards. During his school years his athleticism led to participation in different sports. After graduating from Seven Lakes High school in 2008, he moved on to his namesake city, attending the University of Texas, Austin, and graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering and minor in business.
Professionally, he started at GE and was accepted to the commercial leadership program. His humble nature helped him serve as a strong leader who went above and beyond any job requirements. He went on to work as a senior associate on the corporate audit staff, traveling the world from Dubai to Great Britain to Turkey. After GE, Austin moved on to work in the technology industry and served as program manager and product manager at Amazon, Apple, and Square (Block).
Austin and Vanessa met at UT Austin in 2012. They were married in 2014 and the wedding took place two years later in Bali. Soulmates, the two were a haven for each other throughout the 9 years of deepest love.
Austin is survived by his wife Congcong (Vanessa) Liu, his mother Gengxin Cao and his father Li Chen
He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother Fengyu Liu, his maternal grandfather Wencai Cao; his paternal grandfather Zhangxin Chen and his paternal grandmother Zhuojun Chen.
In the words of John 11:25-26: "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die."
A visitation for Austin will be held Monday, November 7, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas 77079. A funeral service will occur Monday, November 7, 2022 at 10:00 AM, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas 77079. A reception will occur Monday, November 7, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas 77079.
