Art was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 6, 1923 and received an engineering degree from Toledo University. He joined the Army Air Corps (Air Force) in 1941 for his World War II service which involved the Manhattan Project and was recalled during the Korean War for national security reasons.
Art met his loving wife of 64 years, Bernadine (Boots) Borer, while attending a USO dance in 1946. They were married in Toledo, Ohio in 1947, and moved to Houston, Texas in 1949, to start his first business.
Art is survived by his wife, Boots; children, Bernard, David, Dale, Michael, and Janice; daughters-in-law, Marilyn, Mary, Diana and Glinda; son-in-law, Kevin; grandchildren, Stephen, Sharon, Tasha, Jason, Michael, Mitchel, Ryan, Kevin, Lisha, Sean, Kevin, Stacy, Kyle, Travis, and Megan; and sister, June; 16 great grandchildren, and close family friend, Felix. Art has been reunited with his sister, Bea, and granddaughter, Bridget.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Earthman Funeral Directors in the Hunters Creek Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 30, 2011 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 6622 Haskell St., Houston, TX 77007. Art will be buried at Houston National Cemetery with full military honors following the service at 1:00 PM.
