On January 5, 1937, Archie was born to Clevie and Lonnie Combs. He grew up and attended the local grade school in Bienville, Louisiana. He attended Shady Grove High School in Saline, Louisiana in 1957. Then, he moved to Houston where he met and married Mamie Perry. He was a loyal employee of the City of Houston Recreation Department. In his free time, he loved to garden and often gave away excess vegetables from his garden to family and friends. He was a Deacon at Mission Missionary Baptist Church and he served faithfully until his health failed him.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mamie, his father and mother, Lonnie and Clevie Combs, four brothers, Carl, Felton, Peyton, James, and a sister, Ineavia Brown.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son: Lee Sanders, two sisters, Cloteal and Sybil, three brothers, Datin, Refus, and Elton, his long time friend and loyal companion, Maynola Epperson and a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Archie will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. The funeral service will occur at 1:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at Brookside Funeral Home & Memorial Park.
