Tony, Papa Tony, Grandpa, Pops -
Was born in Houston, Texas, September 18, 1948, and grew up in Houston’s Second Ward. He attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School in its entirety to the eighth grade before continuing on and graduating from Austin High School in 1966. A servant from his early years, Tony was an altar boy at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and even spent time helping the MCDP Sisters after school. Tony was always ready to tell a story about the weddings and services he stood in as a boy, usually with a funny or mischievous twist. He made and kept many friends from school and jobs at some of his favorite places like Lenox BBQ, Har-Con, DSI, and his involvement at church.
Tony made his professional mark on Houston working as a Master Plumber. A proud member of Plumbers Local #68, he oversaw commercial planning for projects that generations will see including Minute Maid Park, several of the Texas Medical Center Hospitals, local schools, and Methodist Hospital in Katy. Dedicated to a meticulous job well done, he earned a full retirement from the industry.
In 2000, Tony married his longtime friend and forever love, Carmen, and they shared a beautiful love story for over 22 years. Where one would go, the other could always be found nearby. Together they were a model for their blended family, and watched it grow as grandchildren and great-grandchildren joined in the fun. With a joy for travelling, Tony and Carmen made memories from California, New Mexico, Florida, and Louisiana, to Hawaii, Italy, and all over Mexico.
Loving, giving, happy, caring, and humorous, are all words that will all come to mind when remembering Tony. He was a compassionate person always ready to reach out and give a helping hand. A man of Faith, he had a devotion to The Blessed Mother, and was a founding member of Knights of Columbus Council #7230 at Blessed Sacrament Church. His last home parish was Saint Patrick Catholic Church where he could always be seen at weekly mass, or attended retreats with fellow parishioners, or helping on one of the many committees.
Tony made time for old and new friends of The Breakfast Club at Don Chiles Restaurant, and enjoyed taking fishing trips, coin collecting, gardening, or a quick trip to the casinos. He was always ready to watch an Astros game, share a meal with a fine glass of wine, or celebrate someone’s accomplishments with a hug and a smile.
A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose biggest joy was having his family around him. The oldest of seven, Tony was the ultimate big brother. He is preceded in death by his parents Antonio O. Sr., and Helena Schnur.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Carmen B. Schnur, his children Marcus (Adriana) Schnur, Briana Rodriguez, Hilario (Cindy) Torres, and Irene (Gilbert) Tobias. He is also survived by siblings Ernestine (Peter) Selde, Mary Ann Hernandez, Kathyrn Lyons, Ralph (Sylvia) Schnur, Diane (Carlos) Garza, and James A. (Rebecca) Schnur. Grandchildren Nicholas, Montsserat, Nathan, Ismael, Adam, Samuel, Lauren (Corey), Hilario III (Nicole), Miguel, Illiana, Gianina, along with his nine Great-grandchildren, and a large extended family, neighbors and friends.
