I really do not have a specific memory, except when he left for Vietnam.  I was too young to understand why Mama was crying and several other people.  Later on I knew what was happening, it would be on the news every day when I got home from school.  I am just glad that God spared my brother and brought him back home to us.  It was so sad so many families were not as lucky as we were.  Tony was a very smart man and made his plan on life as far as finances were concerned.   He retired early , and got to enjoy it with his beauty of a wife and his favorite sport of golfing.  His family was lucky to have him, and we were too.  I just hoped we could have seen each other more often, but such is life.  I love you Tony, from your sister Eva.

When I think about my Dad so many great memories and thoughts cross my mind words can’t truly define the feeling. I truly was blessed to have had the greatest father anyone could have ever had. A lot of words could have been used to describe my father, but when I sit back and think about it. The word that I feel best describes him is “GREAT!” And I’m not just saying that because he was my father. I really feel that way! Anyone who knew him would second that thought I’ve never come across a more honest, loving, caring, and compassionate person in my life. My dad would give you the last dollar in his pocket if he felt it would really help. He truly was cut from a different cloth. His greatness wasn’t just defined by his heart it was also defined by his intelligence and moral compass. My dad was a literal genius. It’s like he could figure anything out by just looking at it and studying it for a minute. And I mean anything! He could fix anything on a car or around the house, it didn’t matter. He’d just look at it for awhile then you could see his brain working and boom! A couple hours later it was fixed like new. It was amazing. A renaissance man no doubt. My dad was also the most honest person I have ever met. If there was one thing he hated it was a lier lol. No matter what my dad always  told the truth, even if it meant stepping on someone’s toes. But at the end of the day it was all because he really genuinely cared about people. The true definition of selfless. In a world full of evil and selfish people my dad stood out for how selfless he was. He was always willing and able to lend a helping hand or donate money to someone in need. And he never expected anything in return. God I’m so thankful and beyond blessed to have been able to call  Antonio Lopez Garcia my pops! Great in every sense of the word. This ain’t goodbye dad it’s more like I’ll see you when I get there. Forever and a day Pops! I’ll never forget all you taught me and all the love you gave me. Thanks!

There are so many things that I could say about how great this man was…but one memory I have was when I first started playing golf with the mochachos, I thought to myself…what the hell am I doing, I never really played golf on a serious level before and I knew I wasn’t going to play good. And sure enough, I played worse than I thought I was going to play and I was just waiting for one of the uncles to tell me get the hell off the course but they didn’t.  And after it was over Uncle Tony asked me  if I was gonna back and play and I thought to myself…no way am I coming back. I just embarrassed the hell out of myself, what’s the point, but out of respect I say yes. And to see that smile on his face when I said yes was something I’ll never forget. And ever since then, every time we played he would practice with me, tell me what I was doing wrong and gave me the encouragement I needed to continue to go back and play.  And he did this not to just help me but he always looked at the bigger picture which was to help this family carry on a tradition he helped start 30 + years ago. Because for Tony, the Garcia family and tradition meant everything to him. And for that I promise to do my part in carrying on this golf tradition we have. 

My uncle Tony was a a great man!  He was someone I truly expected and admired.  I will never forget going to Wharton & dropping him & my dad off at Mama & Chuy’s so they could visit with their brothers.  And then waiting for hours in the car for them to be ready to leave!! Lol!  I will always have wonderful memories of going to his & aunt Delia’s house on weekends so him & my dad could go golfing.  I will never forget what a great man  he was!  Love to my aunt Delia & cousins Mike & Maggie, Che, Roger, Nina, Jonathan & Paige and Caleb & Abby!
