While researching my family history through obituaries, I ran across the obituary of your husband/father/grandfather, and I was saddened to see of his passing three years ago.  Mr. de Cardenas took a chance on this young, want to be secretary and hired me at Litwin Engineering to be his and the other engineer's secretary in the Process Department.  Looking back those many years ago, he had to have patience with me in more ways than one and was always very nice, but a very serious employer.  I did enjoy hearing him laugh on occasion with the other engineers and I was very thankful for his attendance at my wedding in Feb. of 1980.  I married a young draftsman who was hired at Litwin in March of 1979.   Your Dad's patience with me followed me through the years for other opportunities in the engineering companies and beyond to work in Conroe ISD.  Jim and I have been married going on 44 years now and are blessed with 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  I send my most heartfelt and delayed condolences and prayers asking God to continue to fill your hearts with memories to share through the generations.

Dear Gloria and Family,

I am so sorry for your loss.  I am sending many thoughts and prayers your way during this difficult time.

Babo and Babi have always brought so much love and joy to this silly family! 

I have seen some people posting about how much Babo/Abuelo liked to dance. Sharing a few pictures from my wedding back in 2013.


My grandfather has always been very involved. He's attended baseball and soccer games, school events, basically every momentous occasion in my life. My confirmation was one of those special times when Babo was there for me as my sponsor. 


My Dad loved celebrations, ALL celebrations.  Holidays, birthdays and even saint's days.  Any excuse to pull the family together and have fun.  He was charming, fun loving and loved meeting new people.  He liked to tell stories, jokes and loved to dance. 

I loved watching my parents dance together.   You could see the love and connection between them.  I will carry these memories and traditions with me.   I love you, papi.

Papi loved his family fiercely, and we will miss his passion and commitment to each of us.  I am grateful for what he has meant to me and to my children and grandchildren.  He has made an impression on each of us that we will never forget.  I love you papi.


As a family, we were fortunate to have taken wonderful vacations together and to have made unforgettable memories.   And of course, there was his passion for hats, especially caps - he had quite a collection.  


My dad had many passions in his life.  My mother, Gloria, was the love of his life, and he loved sharing his life and passions with her.  Another  passion was  travel and together they took many incredible trips.  





I’m so sorry to hear of Mr de Cardenas’ passing.   I grew up with the de Cardenas family, from our shared time at St Cecilia’s in Houston and through high school at St Thomas, and even on to be Texas Aggies.  

Going over to their home was always an event, especially if the entire family was at home.  And if you found yourself in one room with all at once, usually the kitchen or breakfast area around the table, earplugs that soften the volume would have been a good idea.  

All there, all talking, all at once, in a mix of Spanish and English, and at a rapid fire that I frankly could not keep up with . . .  you left wondering what the heck just happened.  Juan should have warned me . . . who knows, maybe he did.  It was always fun, a good time.

My last visit, when I went to take Juan to the Airport to fly back to his family in Georgia, or Rhode Island, was special, and poignant now.  It was my last scotch at the de Cardenas home. 

You didn’t just go to  their house and pick up an offspring by honking the horn, or even going to the door saying “I’m here to take “so and so” to the airport” . . .  it was always more.  You HAD to go in.  It became a visit.

Mr de Cardenas, as he most often would when I knocked on his door after we had all grown, would invite me in and offer me a scotch; I gladly accepted on more than one occasion
.  
A ride to the airport became a time to see the whole family, or at least whoever was home at the time.  I would be invited into their home like I was a part of them, and we all would sit and talk as we filled each other in on our lives today, and reminisced on the past.  

It was always warm in feeling, and you wanted to stay for a long time.  Of course, it was then a race to the airport to make a flight, but that was ok.  I truly miss that
.
To all the family, you are in my heart and prayers during this sorrowful time, and I know your dad rests peacefully knowing what a wonderful family he and your mother, Gloria, have raised.

He estado con ustedes en espiritu durante todo este tiempo tan doloroso pues yo ya pase por lo mismo.  Quiero que sepas que aqui tienes a una amiga que te quiere y comprende y que quiero ofrecerte me apoyo y consuelo en cualquier manera que pueda ayudarte a ti y a tu familia.
Simepre recordaremos a Tony en las reuniones, los Retiros y en la playa.  Esos fueron los tiempos felices para todos nosotros.
La fe en Dios es lo que nos ayuda y sostiene durante estos momentos y en el futuro.

I would be remiss if I didn’t post a picture at the beach house! So many wonderful memories there. 

This photo was Thanksgiving a couple of years ago when Babi and Abuelo came to visit us in our small town of West, Texas. It was a wonderful weekend. We love you dearly Abuelo and will miss you very much! 

This is from our wedding in 2015. I have a few other pictures of Abuelo from then I'll put here. We miss and love you so much Abuelo! 

We met our dear friend Tony at a Weekend Retreat of the Hermandad de Nazareth, he was a devoted catholic man, very loving to his wife Gloria and always shared his faith with others in the group discussions that we had in the Retreats.  He was a good and true friend.  He was a proud member of the Cuban community in the Houston Area,  We pray for his Eternal Rest in the Glory of God and for the support and consolation of his wife Gloria and the family.  God Bless
