Annie was born on August 21, 1931 to the late Alf and Carrie B. Burrell in San Augustine, TX and was the oldest of nine siblings. She later relocated to Houston, TX where she united in marriage to Jessie Maxey Sr. on April 5, 1947 and to that union they raised 5 children, a bonus daughter and son.
Annie was well known for her gentle spirit, helping others and her love for cooking (with everyone’s favorite being her chicken and dumplings!).
She accepted Christ at a young age after moving to Houston, TX and united with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Miles Chapel CME where she served as a Stewardess, Missionary Society and La Petite Club. She was also a member of the Friends in Touch Community Organization in Texas City.
When she arrived at Heaven’s Gate, she was welcomed by her parents, Alf and Carrie Burrell; her husband of 65 years, Jessie Maxey Sr.; her daughters, La Brigette Maxey and Margaret Ann Maxey-White; her son, Jesse Maxey Jr.; her brothers, Maurice Burrell, Charles Burrell, Rickey Burrell and William Alf Burrell; her sisters, Diane Burrell, Kathy Evans and Linda Sutton; God sons, Lonnie Teagle, Joseph Teagle, Bobby Tolbert and nephew, Allen Davis Jr.
Precious memories of her life hold a special place in our hearts, Deborah Maxey and Kim Maxey Roy (Derrick), Denise Fontenot, Tharold Jones; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; her beloved siblings, Vernell Neal, Elouise Yarbrough, Hattie Bedgood (Woodrow), Cleveland Burrell (Norma); Special Sister, Elizabeth Teagle; God Brother, Clifton Thomas (Gloria) and family; her beloved extended family, The Whitmore’s; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, the Cargill St. Family and children in the community whose lives were changed because of her courageous spirit.
