Ann Elizabeth Jones

Ann Elizabeth Walker Jones was one of three children born to Elward and Daisy Andrews Walker on July 30, 1936 in Houston, Texas. Ann's mother died early in her life; Ann and her siblings were raised by their Aunt Ruth along with her children. Ann was also sheltered and mentored in the household of her Uncle and Aunt, Ben and Annie Mae McMillan. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her brother Elward Walker Jr. and her sister Bettye R. Walker Jones. Ann's formal education was completed in the Houston Independent School District. She attended Bruce Elementary, E.O. Smith Jr. High and Phyllis Wheatley Sr. High School class of '54. After graduation, she furthered her education at Wiley College and Texas Southern University acquiring her Bachelor and Master's Degree in Education respectively. While attending Wiley, Ann became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Throughout her extensive career in education, Ann gave over 40 years of service to Kashmere and Waltrip High Schools teaching World History. Ann was a lifelong, dedicated member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities; Administrative Board, Pastor Parish Committee, Chancel Choir, Golden Nugget, United Methodist Women and Bible School. While pursuing her career, Ann married her high school sweetheart, Ralph Jones. To this union a son and a daughter were born, Ralph Elward Jones and DeAnn Hazelle Jones Bennett. Ann enjoyed helping people and was loved by all who knew her. Her big heart welcomed everyone into her family. She shared her talent for baking with her family, friends and co-workers. She is survived by a family whom she dearly cherished: Husband Ralph R. Jones, Sons Dwayne (Trina), Ralph, Daughter, DeAnn (Herman) and Grandchildren, Caleb, Elaine, Nichole, Joshua, Johnathan, Nathaniel, Isaiah, Hannah and Herman. Sister, Gloria Tryals Mundine (George), Brother-in-Law: Hollins "Buck" Jones Nieces: Kim Jones Minix (John),Vanessa Reynolds (Darryl), Karen Lee (Darryl) Nephews: Keith Jones and Craig Walker Beloved Cousins: Vivian L. Andoh (Christian), Mae F. McMillan, M.D., Effie Kate McMillan, Anna Curtis, Sammie Lee Washington, Linda Shaw, Judith Thomas and Zenobia Yvonne Walker. Ann will be forever cherished by many more loving relatives and caring friends.
