Ann Geneva Anderson Finister took her last breath on the morning of April 26, 2022, and peacefully entered eternal rest. Ann was a vicarious lady who loved family and friends. Ann was born to the parents of Lula Webb and Jesse Anderson in the rolling hills of the rural town of Clayton, La. There Ann received her education at Sevier High School. With her sparkling eyes and dimples Ann could light up a room which got her voted homecoming Queen her senior year. Ann met and fell in love with Jesse Finister. Looking for other life opportunities that a small town could not offer, Ann and Jessie moved to Houston, Texas to start and build their lives.
Ann was a nurturing woman and, to fulfill one of her life’s passions, she chose healthcare for a career. Ann worked for more than 20 years at St. Joseph Hospital. This was part of her mission to be an extension of Jesus Christ. In her formative years, Ann accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. Rev. A. T. White of the St. Mark Baptist Church of Clayton baptized her at the early age. In Houston she joined and worked at the Fontaine First Baptist Church. Ann served on the Nurses Aid Board until God called her home. Although her health slowed down her physical labor, she remained faithful to the mission of the church.
Ann was a devoted wife as well as a mother, and through this union with Jesse they had two handsome sons—Carlton and Chadrick. She would beam when talking about her family to anyone who inquired. She was doubly blessed when these sons conferred and promoted her to grandmother status. This was a double portion blessing to her. She could talk to you for hours about each grand. Her love for her grandchildren was ever-present and boundless. She also nurtured and loved all her nieces and nephews, never missing an opportunity to make them feel loved and special for birthdays and other occasions. She cherished the opportunities to assist her sister-in-law, Martha, with her foster children.
Ann loved family and cherished the times when family would gather for holidays, graduations, and other celebrations. She would often bring her famous German chocolate cake! She stayed connected with frequent telephone calls to family and extended family. Ann would have frequent conversations with her dear sister Doris and her special sister-in-law, Annette. They would talk and share stories of their different ailments but always ended each conversation with gratitude, because they all knew that they were blessed beyond measure to have enjoyed fulfilling lives. She enjoyed visiting with her long-time neighbors and always welcomed her children’s friends into her home. In her spare time, Ann would read. She often quoted one of her mother’s favorite sayings “I ain’t fattening no frogs for the snakes.”
Ann was preceded in death by her husband Jesse; her mother and father Lula and Jesse Anderson; siblings Thurman Webb (Dorothy); and Odell Tennessee (LT). Those left to cherish her memory are her sons Carlton and Chadrick “Chad” (Arlene); sisters Doris Anderson Woodside, Carla Webb Clark (Richard); brothers Jessi Lionel Anderson and Larry Green (Paul); grandchildren Asya, Christian, Angel, Chasidy and Amari; God daughter Veronica Johnson; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
