Anita Rachell Evans-Freeman was born March 21, 1967, in Los Angeles, California. She gracefully departed this life on April 12, 2024 in Houston, TX. She was the cherished daughter of Brenda Joyce Sexton Johnson and David Morgan Johnson. She spent her formative years in Liberty County in Ames, TX.
Anita found solace and guidance in her faith, embracing the teachings of St. Miles Baptist Church. Throughout her life, she continued her thirst for spiritual knowledge, drawing strength from her faith in moments of joy and trials alike. She pursued a career in passport administration for the US Government, where her diligence and professionalism left an indelible mark on her colleagues and the countless individuals she served.
Anita was blessed in her life, gifted with four daughters whom she nurtured with boundless love. Her union with Zack Freeman brought not only companionship but also the joy of gaining a bonus daughter Zakari Freeman. Zack and Anita originally met in school in Liberty, TX, but their lives took them on different paths until many years later in their 50s when they reconnected and married in July of 2018.
Anita’s legacy is not merely defined by the milestones she achieved but by the lives she touched and the hearts she uplifted. Her warm smile, compassionate spirit and infectious laughter will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we bid farewell to Anita Rachell Evans-Freeman, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her. Though she has ascended to the Heavens, her memory will remain eternally cherished.
In honoring Anita’s life, let us find comfort in the beauty of her existence and carry forward the lessons of love, faith and resilience she so gracefully imparted. May her soul find eternal peace in the embrace of the divine. She is survived by her husband, Zack Freeman III, her five daughters and her one sister. Her five daughters: LaQweta Johnson, RockQuel Solis (Javier) daughter Natalya; ShaQuria Evans-Trahan (Ryan) son ShaDamian, daughter Sanaiyah; DaQwesha Davila (Daniel) daughter Dollicia; and Zakari Freeman. Her sister, Monica Hill (Thomas) daughter Markeita (Aundre) sons Thomas Jr.(Calisha) and Treon and a host of family and friends who will forever treasure her memory.
Anita is predeceased by her parents, David Johnson and Brenda Sexton. Waiting for her at heaven’s gate are her grandparents, Elroy and Addie Sexton and Willie and Hattie Johnson, aunts, uncles, and her two cousins George Bradley and Melinda Andress.
A visitation for Anita will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the funeral home, followed by the funeral service from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home - Champions, 3410 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX 77068.
