Nguyễn Ngọc Ánh of Houston, Texas, U.S.A. passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, February 22, 2024, from cancer, with her loving husband by her side at the age of 66. She was born on June 30, 1957 in An Giang, Vietnam where she grew up in a large and close-knit family of twelve children, of which she was the sixth child of Nguyễn Văn Mạng and Trần Thị Mừng. At the young age of 22, she married her sweetheart and later immigrated to the United States to start their new life.
Starting over in a new country presented itself with many challenges, but also an abundance of opportunities. In 1990, she and her husband accomplished the American dream - becoming proud business owners of a small shop in the Heights. For over 20 years, they worked tirelessly to provide a beautiful, safe, and happy life for their family of four. She retired in 2012 and shortly after, happily received her new promotion as Bà Ngoại (grandmother).
Ánh had three things she cherished most in her life – God, family, and food. Being a wonderful chef, she often showered her loved ones with delicious homecooked meals to show them how much she cared. Her home was always a warm, inviting place for friends and family to gather because she made each and every person feel so welcomed.
She is preceded in death by her father Nguyễn Văn Mạng, sister Nguyễn Hoa Hồng, and brother Nguyễn Hoàng Phúc.
She is survived by her husband Võ Ngọc Giàu, two children Khương and Linhtrang, son-in-law Toko, and grandchildren Marria, Matea, and Nolan.
The family would like to thank Dr. Yesid Alvarado-Valero and the entire team at MD Anderson Cancer Center for the care and compassion they showed her. In addition, the family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all her close friends for providing so much love and support during this difficult time.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church at 8200 Roos Road, Houston, TX 77036 on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 9:45 AM.
