Andy Teng-Yen Huang, 88, passed away peacefully at home on May 18, 2021. He was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 1933, the third-eldest of six children. Born into a family of farmers, Andy charted a different path. He earned acceptance to Taiwan’s prestigious Tainan University of Technology where he received his degree in structural engineering. He immigrated to Stillwater, Oklahoma to continue his engineering studies at Oklahoma State University. In 1968, he married Amy, and subsequently settled in New York City to begin a new life together.
Andy spent nearly his entire career as a civil engineer at Bechtel Corporation, where he contributed to notable projects, including the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Metropolitan Art Museum in New York, and chemical and nuclear power plants across the US. In 1978, Andy and Amy moved to Spring, Texas, where he raised his family. He also assisted his mother and several of his siblings immigrate to the United States.
Upon his retirement in 1998, he and Amy enjoyed traveling domestically and internationally. He especially loved taking cruises. When he was no longer physically able to travel, he enjoyed trading stocks, watching Chinese news channels, learning about new scientific advances, collecting baseball caps, and seeing his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Amy, daughter Wendy, son James (Elizabeth), son Steven (Johanna), and four grandchildren. He is also survived by loving siblings, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and a host of long-time friends. He left a lasting legacy for the generations that followed him.
