Andrew McCue “Drew” Webb, a student in the University Of Pennsylvania’s Post Baccalaureate Pre-Health Program, passed away Monday, the 12th of April 2010. Drew was born in Stamford, Connecticut and moved to Houston, Texas when he was two. He attended River Oaks Baptist School and graduated from Episcopal High School in 2004 as Valedictorian of his class. Drew attended and graduated from Cornell University in 2008. He began his studies at Penn in 2009.
Drew’s accomplishments in life were many. In addition to being an Eagle Scout, he was awarded one of Scouting’s highest honors, the Honor Medal, for saving a fellow scout’s life while putting his own life at risk while on a canoeing trip on Buffalo Bayou. Drew was an excellent lacrosse player as exhibited by being one of Texas’ first two-time High School All Americans. A four-year starter at Episcopal, he lettered each of the four years he attended Cornell. During his time at Cornell, the team was four-time Ivy League Champions and participated in the NCAA Tournament every year. Drew also enjoyed writing, authoring numerous columns and articles for the school newspaper at ROBS, Episcopal and Cornell. His columns providing guidance to those in need of assistance in social situations were especially appreciated. He also worked one summer at Texas Monthly and had three articles published under his byline.
Drew allowed his creativity to come out in unique ways, endearing him to many people, especially teachers, school administrators and others in positions of authority. He was always looking for an opportunity to have an impact on the event at hand. He took great joy in making people laugh and often went to the extreme to make it happen.
Surviving Drew are his mother, Dorothy; father, Hall; brother, Thurston; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by more friends than he could have ever imagined. Drew brought joy to many, he made people laugh, he was a good teammate and he looked out for those who were in need. Extremely bright, inquisitive, caring and determined, Drew made life better for those who knew him and many who did not.
The memorial service is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 20th of April, in the Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main Street in Houston, where Dr. Wm. “Bill” Heston, Senior Associate Pastor, is to officiate.
Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Palm Court.
Serving as honorary pallbearers during the service are Drew’s close friends from “the Posse,” and his teammates from “Cornell Lacrosse.”
