Andrea Gaedcke “Andy” Stefanick was born in Houston on the 4th of July 1967 and passed away in Houston on Thursday, the 27th of July 2023, after fighting a long battle with depression. In her final hours she was surrounded by family, love, and reverence. She was 56 years of age.
She is survived by her husband, Mark Stefanick; her children, Natalie Stefanick, Ian Stefanick, and Andrew Stefanick; her parents, Gilbert and Mary Kay Gaedck; her brother, Dewey Gaedcke; and her sister Tracy Smith and her husband Cody; and her two dogs, Katy Belle and Astro. Andy was the proud grandmother of Max Herrick, and loved her three nieces, Terra and Katrina Gaedcke, and Ellie Smith, and nephew, Cody Smith. She was an incredibly supportive and devoted mother to her stepchildren, nieces, nephew, siblings, and close friends.
Andy attended Kinkaid, St. Mary’s Hall, and graduated from Lamar High School in 1986. She attended the University of Texas Austin and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Andy studied fashion abroad in England and France. She had a fulfilling carrier in retail fashion where she worked for Neiman Marcus, Tootsie’s, then founded and ran her own women’s evening wear boutique, Nuit.
Andy was an accomplished tennis player, when she was 12 she was nationally ranked. She was a member of the River Oaks Country Club and River Oaks Woman’s Tennis Association. She played at Westheimer Indoors and too many competitive leagues to name. Andy was known by most in the tennis world. Andy loved to play Mahjong. She was a tireless defender of any underdog, but especially dogs.
Dogs were her greatest love and devotion. “High up in the courts of heaven today a little dog waits; with the other angels he will not play, but he sits alone at the gates. “For I know my master will come” says he, “and when she comes she will call for me.”
