A loving mom and grandmother went home to be with the Lord on February 10, 2017.
She was born in Mission, Texas on January 30, 1934, the youngest of the Teodulo and Fructuosa Vela family of seven children and is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Trinidad, Margarito, and Julio, and sisters, Dora and Maria, her son Edward, and her husband, Edwin Payne. She is survived by sister, Ofilia Reyna, daughter, Susan and husband Elias Juarez, their two sons, Joaquin and Joshua, her son, Brian and his wife Vickie Payne and their children, Ethan, Elise, and Erron and many nephews and nieces.
Amelia served in the Women's Army Corp during the Korean War. She graduated from the McAllen Business College and worked as an accountant for several Chrysler dealerships. Amelia retired at age 70 after having worked for Bay Area Surgicare for more than 20 years. The final three years of her life after suffering a stroke, Amelia resided at The Lakes (Bay Oaks) of Texas City, where she was loved by all and whom she considered as part of her extended family.
A visitation will be held Thursday, February 16, 2017 from !0:00 am, to 11:00 am at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. Amelia will be laid to rest at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038 on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 11:30 am.
