Alvin, affectionately known as “Al,” always considered West Columbia his home and was an active member of the community for many years. Anyone who knew West Columbia knew that he was the “Al” in Al’s Mini Mart. He served as a member of the West Columbia city council, the volunteer fire department, and St. John’s Masonic Lodge #5. Al was a good friend to many and always had a smile and a conversation for anyone who wandered into his store. He never met a stranger and many people called him “friend.”
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Sander Rosen; his mother, Lillian Davidson Rosen; his brothers, Irvin and Jack Rosen; and his beloved son, Sammy Rosen. Alvin is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginny” Rosen; sister, Frances “Sissy” Gelfand; his children, David Rosen, Jill Calzada, and Randy Rosen; his step-sons, Ty, Kevin, Philip and Jonathan Watterson; and his grandchildren, Cayce, Ashley, Sydney, Alex, Molly, Lillian Sophia, Kaitlynn, Jacob, Cameron, Autumn, Riann, and Wyatt.
A graveside service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Sunday, the 17th of April, at Holy Cross Cemetery, 839 Church Street in East Bernard, Texas where Rabbi Deborah Schloss is to officiate.
Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at a venue to be announced during the service.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Al’s name be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL, 32256.
