ALMA IONA MOORE BIEDIGER, age 96,a.k.a. Mom, Nana, G.G., Aunt Bittie, a Houston resident for the last 73 years, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, and to be reunited with the love of her life, her husband, Lawrence J. (Larry) Biediger, Sr.; her parents, Wiseman Gant Moore and Loleet W. Gibson Moore, and siblings, Sam Fulton Moore, Mack Edward Moore, Maggie Sue (Sis) Moore Gunkel Ivey, Alvie Lee (Jack) Moore, Katy Irene Moore Gunkel, Ruby Mae Moore Partin, Abner Boyce (A.B.) Moore, Mary Elizabeth Moore, Virginia Leona Moore Weinhold, and Jessie Bell (Cotton) Moore Anabel. Born in Falfurrias, Brooks County, Texas, on August 24, 1926, her family moved to Luling, Caldwell County, Texas soon thereafter. She attended Luling High School and was a member of the Eagles twirlers. In early 1943, she tagged along on her friend’s date, and met Larry, the man she would ultimately marry. They were married in Austin, Texas on June 14, 1943, and spent 68 years together until Larry’s death on July 1, 2011. During Larry’s service as an Army Air Corps staff sergeant in World War II, they lived in Del Rio, Texas and Sacramento, California, before returning to their native Texas upon completion of his tour of duty. After he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1949, Larry and Alma moved to Houston.
Alma is survived by their 5 children, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren: daughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Biediger, and wife, Kim, of Missoula, Montana; son, Deacon Lawrence Joseph (Larry) Biediger, Jr. and wife, Cathy, of Hockley, and their children, Lawrence Joseph III (Trey), and wife, Allison, and daughters, Briley Anne and Bryn Elizabeth; Frank Joseph and wife, Jessica, and sons, Cash Joseph, Slaide James, and Rex Leonard; Mary Rachel Harrison and husband, Heath, and daughters, Leslie Catherine (Cate) and Margaret Gail (Maggie), and son, Hudson Albert; and Mary Lauren Biediger, and wife, Jennifer, and sons, Lincoln Jude and Winston Grover; daughter, Mary Annette Biediger Novak and husband, Myron, of Fort Worth, Texas, and children, Dr. Sarah Loleet Garner Noonan, PhD, and husband, Brendan, and sons, James Timothy and Oliver Joseph, and Jacob Paul Garner; son, Timothy Gerard Biediger and wife, Michelle, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and children, Jeremy Lawrence Biediger, and wife, Samantha, Tyler Mueller, Chance Mueller, and wife, Lily, and Chloe Biediger; and daughter, Therese Anne Biediger Frizzell and husband, Kevin, of Nacogdoches, Texas and their children, Dr. Hannah Elise, PhD, and husband, Dr. Adam Daily, MD, of Seattle, Washington, Emily Kathryn of Austin, and Colin Brantley, and wife, Alicia, of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Alma is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Biediger, of Garden Ridge, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A devout convert to the Catholic faith, Alma was a founding parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Houston, where she and her family worshiped for over 30 years. For the past 40 years, she had been a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Houston, where she volunteered for many years as manager of Joseph’s Coat, resale shop. Alma was also a Third Order Carmelite member, and a former member of the Order of Alhambra.
Alma loved to travel, paint, do jigsaw puzzles, and most recently create works of art with colored pencils. Always the peacemaker, she will be forever remembered for her love of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream, or any ice cream for that matter, and her famous pineapple squares, made only twice a year at Christmas and Easter.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 20, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway at Eldridge, Houston, TX 77079, with Rosary/Vigil Service at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2022, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oak Trail, Houston, with the Rev. Troy Gately officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, Eldridge and I-10. Grandsons will act as pallbearers.
