Alicia Marie Hicks, affectionately known as “Lisa’” gained her wings on August 31, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her beautiful smile and gorgeous dimples melted the hearts of many. Lisa was born on June 20, 1969, in Lexington Park, Maryland to the late Phyllis Marie Harris Hicks and the late Freddie Gene Hicks. She was raised in Houston, Texas alongside her siblings, creating a tight knit family. Her stepmother, the late Sonja Hicks was also inspirational in helping her throughout her young adult life.
Lisa earned most of her education in Houston Independent School District and completed 3 years at Madison High School but graduated from Overlea High School in Baltimore County, Maryland. Lisa returned to Houston and attended college. After college she devoted her career to the Attorney General’s Office of Child Support Enforcement in Houston, Texas. Her commitment to her work reflected her deep compassion for families in the Houston area. She worked tirelessly for 30 years, she built long lasting friendships with co-workers, and they became family to her, she retired January 2023. She also worked part time for Randall’s for over 14 years.
Lisa was a devoted single mother to her son, Kwenton Duane Pettice-Hicks and she cherished every moment of raising him. Her world was changed forever by his untimely passing in a motorcycle accident in 2022, but she found solace in the love of her grandchildren. Her grand babies were her pride and joy, and she did not miss a moment sharing pictures and videos of them. They all had their grandmother wrapped around their little fingers; whatever they wanted they got. They knew they could come to grandma’s house and stay up late, eat snacks and drink as much as they wanted.
Outside of her professional life, Lisa was known for living her life to the fullest. She loved to travel, her favorite was going on cruises with her family and friends, visiting destinations like the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Mexico, Aruba and so much more. Lisa also loved visiting and spending time with her family. Lisa’s infectious smile and sparkling personality could light up any room, especially when her luck was on at the casino or when playing bingo and scratch off tickets. She had a flair for fashion and loved to make a statement with her stylish clothes, shoes, jewelry, and signature long glittery nails.
Lisa leaves to mourn her 5 grandchildren: Brooklyn Hicks, Aaliyah Hicks, Karmelo Hicks, Jessaleen Hicks and Jesslani Hicks; six siblings: LaQuita Cuff, Elanda Johnson (Kenneth Sawyer), Alexis Harrison (Pierre Harrison), Freddie Hicks II (Demetra Hicks), Trenard Hodge and Anthony Hicks; Grandmother Princella Henry; Uncles Albert Tyler (Don Zimmerschied) and Kenneth Tyler; nephew Christian Harris Jr. who helped to care for her during her illness, host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and countless friends who will miss her dearly.
Lisa’s vibrant spirit, unwavering strength and warm heart will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. As we say goodbye for now, we celebrate the incredible life she lived and the joy she brought to everyone around her. Rest in Peace Lisa. Your light will continue to shine brightly in our memories.
