Alicia Guevara, age 78 passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at her home with family by her side.
Alicia was born September 28,1940 in Houston, Texas to Jose Maria Guevara and Juanita Hernandez Guevara.
Much of her early childhood was spent in Pearland, Texas until her family moved back to Houston. Her passion for music began in Pearland, where she studied multiple instruments that included the clarinet, cymbals, percussion, bass drum and later the violin at the Houston Conservatory of Music which also included the piano. Music, Dance (Ballet) and Theater were the loves of her life. She choreographed many Mexican and Spanish Folk Dances among her young students. In 1961, Alicia graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in Houston and played in the marching band where her love of music continued.
Alicia’s early career was dedicated to the youth as she spent time teaching and working with Houston ISD, Pasadena ISD and Spring Branch ISD. Later she pursued an opportunity to work with the Houston Police Department; Special Operations Division, spending over ten years there until retirement. She enjoyed her work, was known to her colleagues and friends for her beauty, intelligence, tireless energy in helping others, her style of clothing was often complimented by so many. Moreover, she brought so much joy and the love of life everywhere she went, as she had a strength that persevered!
Alicia was preceded in death by her parents Jose Maria Guevara and Juanita Hernandez Guevara; brothers Rufus and Joe Guevara; sisters Marie Williams and Guadalupe Guevara.
Alicia is survived by her son Jose (Joey) Francisco Sanchez-Navarro, her daughters Teresa De los Angeles Sanchez-Navarro Garza and Andrea Rebecca Guevara Johnston; sisters Ofelia Guevara and Linda Moore; brothers Jesse Guevara and Rudy Guevara; grandchildren Christian J. Garza, Aaron Z. Garza, Brandon E. Garza and Carson C. Steely.
Pallbearers will be Joey F. Navarro, Kevin D. Steely, Christian J. Garza, Aaron Z. Garza, Brandon E. Garza, and Carson C. Steely.
We wish to thank the many family and friends who have prayed for our mother Alicia and was there for her always... A sincere thank you to all who had the opportunity to meet Alicia, an amazing beautiful kind-hearted mother and grandmother that anyone could ever ask for which laid the foundation of who we are today. She loved and adored her children and grandsons with all her heart, she will be sorely missed by many…
Visitation for Alicia will be held Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Crespo, 2516 Navigation Blvd., Houston, TX 77003.
