Alice Marie Scheffel Walters

Alice Marie Walters was born March 6, 1928 to Edward Scheffel and Margaret Marie Gross Scheffel in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from Arasmus Hall High School and then attended business school perfecting her secretarial skills. Alice Marie worked for Standard Oil of New Jersey where she met Wilfred Peter Walters (Pete) and married on September 9, 1950. They moved to Houston, TX in 1961 when Pete was transferred and where they remained for the duration of their lives.

Alice Marie was preceded in death by her father, Edward Scheffel, husband, Wilfred Peter Walters and mother, Margaret Marie Scheffel.

She is survived by four children, daughter, Linda Jane Waters, daughter, Joyce Anne Simmons and husband Steve, son Thomas Edward Walters and wife Debra, and son James Peter Walters and wife Bridget; seven grandchildren, Megan Simmons Duhon and husband Matt, Andrew Peter Simmons, James Paden Walters, George Peter Walters, Joseph Quentin Walters, Heather Helen Waters Guevara and husband Jose, and Elizabeth Ivy Waters, as well as two great grandchildren, Jordan Christopher Guevara and Aimar Alexis Guevara.

Alice Marie was a long time member of St Francis Episcopal Church. She started the St. Claire Guild at St. Francis quilting prayer blankets. She was also a volunteer with the St. Francis Gathering Alzheimer's Group. She was active in the Greater Houston Quilt Guild and West Houston Quilt Guild, Embroiderer’s Guild of Houston, Lonestar Chapter ANG as well as multiple quilting bee groups. Alice Marie owned ‘N Calicos, Too for 20+ years sharing her love of needlework with others, especially quilting and teaching others to quilt. One of her favorite things was the children’s classes she offered every summer. She was an active member of the Exxon Retirees. Alice Marie loved to travel on family vacations, local group outings and visiting friends across the country.

Visitation was held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Waltrip Funeral Directors. Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6th at St. Francis Episcopal Church and interment followed in Woodlawn Garden of Memories. Because her favorite color was red, attendees were encouraged to wear red in her honor.
