Jane married her college sweetheart, Thomas William (Bill) Mahns, on July 1, 1960, after which they shared a lifetime of fun and adventures. They met at Sam Houston State University in 1956 and, upon her graduation in 1960, began a lifetime together. Jane's interests and hobbies included her Bible Study group, reading, bird watching, maintaining her flowerbeds and potted plants, and creating beautiful counted cross stitch pictures.
Jane graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston, Texas in 1956 and graduated from Sam Houston State in May of 1960. Jane was a stay-at-home mother until her daughters were in school, then worked as the membership clerk of South Main Baptist Church and later as medical transcriptionist for Dr. Robert Fain, Sr.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Alice Dighton and husband Craig of Franklin, Tennessee, and Sherri McCain and husband Tim of Bay City, Texas. Also surviving Jane is her brother, James F. Bunting and his family, niece Anne Bunting of Houston, Texas, nephew Stephen Bunting and wife Adrienne of Sherman Oaks, California, and their two daughters, Sarah and Erica. She has one grandson and three great-grandchildren, and many devoted friends.
Jane was a member South Main Baptist Church.
Jane was not one to call attention to herself, and as she requested, there will be a graveside service conducted by Forest Park Westheimer in Houston on Friday October 7, 2022 at 2pm.
The family will receive friends at Forest Park Westheimer between 1pm and 2pm in the Event Room.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Texas Children's Hospital or New Hope Academy in Franklin, Tennessee.
