Alice Dellene Evans Barry passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at the age of 84 in Houston, Texas. Alice was born on April 2, 1937, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Robert John Evans, Jr., and Frances “Billie” Evans.
Alice attended Classen High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and then Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth, Texas, where she graduated in 1955. Alice attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a major in advertising and was a treasured member of Tri Delta.
Alice married Norris William Barry in 1959 and started a family in Houston, Texas. Her two sons, Evans William Barry and Joseph Robert Barry were her pride and joy.
A longtime member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, she also supported her husband and son Joseph’s faith at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
Alice served as president of Tri Delta Alumnae Association, and president of the Houston Alumnae Panhellenic Association. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Ronald McDonald House and the Periwinkle Foundation, which provide services for children with cancer and other terminal illnesses.
Alice enjoyed her membership at the Lakeside County Club, where she loved to socialize and play bingo. She served as president of the Lakeside County Club Women’s Association, president of Friends of Briarwood and chairman of Briarwood Fundraiser. Alice also served in both of her sons Parent Teacher Associations and other social organizations.
A skilled seamstress, Alice assisted high school students with sewing projects so the students could be successful in his or her class. Loved by many, Alice’s laugher, nurturing love, and infectious smile will live in many hearts and will not be forgotten by those who loved her.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Norris William Barry and her son, Evans William Barry. She is survived by her son Joseph Robert Barry.
The family would especially like to thank Candace Green and Avid Home Care Solutions for the love and care they provided to Alice and her family for the past five years.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a Rosary in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Home, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at 11:00 am at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77024 with a reception to follow immediately thereafter. A graveside service will be on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at 1:30 pm at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
