Alfred Colunga, Sr., 84, of Houston, Texas went home to be with the Lord on February 24, 2023. Alfred was born to John and Jane Colunga on January 26, 1939 in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Milby High School. After graduation, he married and was later drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country for four years.
In his early years he worked as machinist at Davis and Lynch and then attended Barber College and became a master hairstylist for over 50 years. In between cutting hair, he helped with the family bus service for many years. He also enjoyed making trophies which was one of his passions.
He was an active member of Sagemont Church in Houston where he served in the Bus and Baptism Ministries. He enjoyed fishing, coaching little league, dancing, and rooting on his hometown sports teams especially his World Champion Houston Astros. Part of his daily routine started by meeting with friends for a morning cup of coffee and coming home to work in his yard.
Alfred is preceded in death by his parents John and Jane Colunga. He his survived by his wife Gloria of 62 years. Sons Alfred Colunga, Jr., James Colunga wife Stacy and granddaughter Amelia. Also, his sisters, Vera Ramirez, Rachel Coronado and husband Isaac. Brothers, Johnny Colunga and wife Hope, Eddie Colunga, and numerous nephews and nieces.
A celebration of Alfred’s life will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be on Monday, March 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
