Alfonso Mendoza, 95, of Houston, Texas, entered into rest June 6, 2017. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 22, 1921 to parents Melchor and Juanita Mendoza. Alfonso enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his Country in WWII and the Korean War. He was married to Nora B. Mendoza for 75 loving years. Al had a career in locomotive machinery for Southern Pacific Railroad. He was a member of The Worship Center and had a passion for auto mechanics but most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.
Alfonso is survived by his beloved wife Nora B. Mendoza, his daughter Betty Harris, son John Mendoza, and daughter Evonn Ellis, grandchildren Nicholas Harris, Natalie Harris, and Joshua Harris, great grandchildren Colson and Piper, brother Gilbert Mendoza and wife Melba, and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Melchor and Juanita Mendoza, siblings Aurelia, Alex, Amelia, Arthur, and Eva.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 9:30 am to 1:00pm with a funeral service to begin at 1:00pm at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. A committal service will follow to the Houston National Cemetery where military services will be rendered.
