Alene James Myers, devoted Christian, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on May 14, 2023 in Conroe, Texas with her family while listening to her favorite preachers. She was 90 years old. She was born in Anson Texas on February 20, 1933. She was the tenth child of Ethan Allen James and Vallie Josephine Isbell James.
To most people, Alene, was known as “Nannie” or “Aunt Nana”. She was a beautician by trade and owned her own hair salon for many years. She owned Southwest Truck and Equipment Service in Houston, Texas.
In 1991, she moved to Montgomery, TX to live with her daughter at Bethel Ranch where she cared for some amazing foster children. She was an avid plant grower and loved gardening. She was a God-fearing woman and was devoted to him. She was a prayer warrior and wanted to tell everyone about her Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Myers. She was also preceded in death by her four brothers Hershel Richard James (Beatrice Raby James), Lindon A. James (Allie Bea Dorsett James & Bobbie Jean Myers James), Johnny Buford James (Inez Alexander James & Marion LaFone James), and Hollie Don James (Bertha May Sherman James) and also by five sisters and their spouses: Anna Loretta James Nobles (Arch Charles Noble), Ula Pearl James Green (Abb Martin Green), Lela Inez James Robert (Robert Lee James, Jr.), Vera Viola James Syring Rackley (Fred A. Syring and Bill Rackley), and Bettie Louise James Salvaggio Barnett (Lee Salvaggio and Robert H. Barnett).
She is survived by her grandchildren, Cherise Alene Jackson and husband Mike, Leah Schackelford and husband Ricky, Leuran Myers and husband Danny, Vanessa Rucker and husband Joseph, Travis Myers, Najee Myers, Wayne Duke and wife Amy, and Amanda Parker. Also, survived by her son Lewis Parker and 22 nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her great grandchildren, Patrick Duke, Noah Duke, Sebastian Duke, Colby Goodman, Abigail Alene Goodman, Ivy Lynn Rucker, Leland Rucker, Alexa Shackelford, Claire Shackelford, Kaelynn Myers, Lucas Myers and Parker Myers.
She is survived by her best friend Beverley Coad. They met in 1982 at church, where Bev’s belated husband, Graeme Coad, was the pastor. Bev and Nannie traveled to New Zealand together in 1983. Bev has been Nannie’s confidant and a true believer in the power of prayer.
A life celebration will be held Saturday, May 27, 2023 at noon at Brookside Funeral Home located at 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. Graveside immediately following at Brookside Memorial Park at the Garden of Devotion.
