Albert Gordon Stokes passed away at home on Friday August 6, 2010. He was born November 23, 1916 in Paducah, Texas to Henry Charles Stokes and Suella Moore Stokes. He studied at Wayland Baptist College before earning a law degree at Baylor University. He married Mary Owens Bragg on June 19, 1942, and they lived in Providence R. I. and Boston while he served in the FBI. He then joined the US Army, CIC, and served in Germany during World War II. An attorney with Vinson and Elkins, he practiced law in Houston for many years. Gordon was preceded in death by his wife Mary Owens and brother, George. He is survived by his son, Owen Stokes and his wife Paula, and daughter Mary Susan Stokes, all of Houston; by daughter Martha Helen Rouse and her husband Al, of Tigard, Oregon; by grandchildren Amy Anderson and her husband JD, of Dallas, Jacob Rouse and his wife Jessica, of Somers, New York, and Jeff Stokes and his wife Elisa of Round Rock; and by great-grandchildren, many relations, especially in Paducah, and loving friends and neighbors. The family wishes to thank his wonderful care givers: Roxanne, Mona, Mary, Kelly, Betty, and Carol, you all gave good love with the wonderful care. The folks at Memorial Hermann Palliative/Hospice Care are also greatly appreciated, especially Kathy, Teri, and Janet. He was a decent, playful, smart, sweet man who will be greatly missed by those proud to call him father, and by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 10, 2010 at 12:30 PM with a visitation 1 hour prior to services in the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel 13001 Katy Freeway Houston, Texas 77079. Interment will follow in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
