Visitation and funeral services will be observed on Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 9:00AM until funeral time at 11:00AM at Jones Funeral Home 230 S. Hollywood Rd., Houma, LA 70360. (All visitors are asked to adhere to the CDC local regulations by wearing masks and practicing social distancing.) Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
James became an entrepreneur in 1966 when he opened up James Cleaners in Houma, LA, which was the oldest Black-owned business in Terrebonne Parish. And he owned and operated the business for 41 years.
James is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce T. Harris; daughter, Melinda M. Casson; sons, Darrel Butler, Patrick, Craig (Renee), Corey (Kema) and Arnold (Nichole) Harris; five granddaughters; four grandsons; a great-grandson; sisters, Dolores H. Desselle and Pearl M. Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, relatives and friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James "Bolo" C. Harris, Sr. and Beatrice T. Harris; sister, Louise H. T. Parker; paternal grandparents, Charles Harris and Josephine James; maternal grandparents, Richard and Millie Thomas; nephew, Eric D. Robinson; and niece, Tiffany T. Pledger.
