Marie grew up in a big family––with her parents and 10 siblings––on what was then called West Park Avenue. She was the youngest of the four girls, and, like them, was baptized at New Rising Sun Baptist Church at an early age.
She loved cooking and shopping and getting dressed up––whether she was leaving the house or not––and afternoons on the porch greeting her neighbors. Marie always looked forward to festive occasions, where she relished spending time with family and helping to prepare the special dishes that marked the holidays. There was nothing she enjoyed more than giving and receiving gifts!
Marie was a proud and loving daughter, aunt, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and treasured time spent with loved ones.
She is survived by her son, Derrick Douglas; granddaughter, Tonisha Douglas; great-granddaughters Imry and Elsie Warren; brothers, Gerald, Sr. (Delores), Bobby, Sr., and Benny Douglas; sister, Carolyn D. Washington; nieces, Gwendolyn Doss Carter, Darlene Douglas, Ruthelen Douglas, Tessie Douglas Johnson, Taira Douglas Every, Lynn Pitts, Dominique Douglas, Breanne Douglas, Sharonda Douglas, and Marsha Carter Hardwell; nephews, Freddie Douglas, III, Kenyada Douglas, Gerald Douglas, Jr., Douglas Carter, Jr., Damion Douglas, Brandon Douglas, Bobby Douglas, Jr., William D. Trammell, and a host of other great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Freddie, Sr. and Helen Willis Douglas; brothers,
George, Freddie Jr., Nolan Douglas, Sr., and Donald; sisters, Annie D. Doss and Marguerite D. Pitts; paternal grandparents, Eloi and Amelia Douglas; maternal grandparents, Harry and Elizabeth Williams Willis; nephews, Nolan Douglas, Jr., Darius Jehan Douglas, and Bruce Wayne Douglas; a great-niece, Ja’Niyah N.
