Dorothy Mae Bonnet “Dot” was born on August 1, 1947; to the union of the late Esteve Bonnet and Mary Elouise Shelvin- Bonnet. She was the second eldest of six children. Dorothy was baptized at a very young age. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and dear friend of many. Dorothy peacefully transitioned to her eternal home in the early morning of June 18, 2024 at the age of 76. Dorothy brought joy, warmth, love, and laughter to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Dorothy started working as a young lady in many different food entities, which showcased her divine love and extreme talent for cooking. Dave’s Cajun Kitchen and Piccadilly’s Cafeteria were work homes to her for a plethora of years. Dorothy was born with the talent of cooking and seasoning food to a perfection that only she could obtain, which led to her becoming a licensed sales ‘lady; baking, and cooking for the neighborhood and everyone she knew. Including fine dining dinner parties for her previous bosses, Mardi Gras crew parties, weddings, etc. As a result, she became known respectfully as Ms. Dot “The Candy Lady”.
Dorothy M. Bonnet was preceded in death by her parents; Esteve and Mary Elouise Shelvin- Bonnet, of Carencro, La; her sister; Mary Julia “Emma Jean” Dillard. Her brothers; Joseph and Clayton Shelvin, Steven and Harry Lee Bonnet Sr. She leaves to cherish behind her precious memories with her 5 wonderful children, Daughters; Sharlene Theriot (Kirk), Mary Johnson, and Sarah Harding Harris of Houma, La. Sons; Bruce Harding Sr., of Crandall, TX and Claude Alex McGuire of Houma, La. She leaves behind 10 grandchildren; Arielle Barquet (Junius), Bruce Harding Jr. (Gabrielle), Jasmine Lewis (Brian), Brennan Harding, Henry Harris III, Mia Ross, Justen Harris, Roland Johnson, Ky'Lyn Adams, and Ja'Lyn Adams. Eight great grandchildren; Ja'Vhonn Brown, Jhayce Brown, Braylon Lewis, Bruce Harding III, Dream Thomas, Brycen Lewis, Kreed Johnson, and A'Zhyri Harris. Four godchildren; Christopher Smith of Port Authur, TX, Kisha Jones Jasper (Bryan) of Gray, LA; Laura Lee Gaither of Houma, LA; and Harry Bonnet Jr. (Monique) of Westwego, LA, and a host of other nieces, nephews, and friends.
The service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held at 1114 Church Street, New First Corinthian Baptist Church in Houma, LA. Her family invites all who knew and loved her to join them in remembering a phenomenal woman.
