Rev. Richard W. “Dick” Ames, 93 of Hot Springs Village, AR, entered into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, December 17, 2022. He was born on November 5, 1929, in Milwaukee, WI, to the late Alexander and Adina (Reinke) Ames.
Rev. Ames, a retired Lutheran pastor, graduated in 1956 from Concordia Seminary in Springfield, Missouri. After graduation he married, Elaine Hoffman. She served as a church organist throughout their 62 years of marriage wherever he served as pastor in North Dakota and Wisconsin. Dick later earned a B.A. from Jamestown College in Jamestown, North Dakota as well as an MA from North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota. Throughout their life together the Ames did lots of camping, something they still enjoyed even after settling in Hot Springs Village. Active members at Faith Lutheran Dick taught Bible Studies, led a support group for caregivers of those with dementia and other limitations, and two – three times a week Dick enjoyed playing golf in the Men’s Golf League.
In the last four years Dick wrote two books about his life experiences, the first “For Those Who Weep – Why?” is available at Amazon.com. They concern what he learned about suffering. A. God is in Charge. B. Though a “chief of sinners” he was fiercely loved and cared for by God.
Cherishing his memory are his four children Dr. Richard W. Ames (Kay), LuAnn MacDaniel (Mark); Jonathon Ames (Denise) and Melinda Roberts (Patrick); three siblings: Delphine Ames, Alexander Ames (Sharon), and Yvonne Williard (James); nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
