Dr. Phyllis Heinemann, 67, passed away March 1, 2022 after a recent illness. She is predeceased
by her beloved husband, Russ McAdams, her sister Carol Nelson (Philadelphia), and her parents
Dr. Victor and Frances Heinemann. She is survived by her brothers Drs. Fred and Phillip
Heinemann (Hot Springs), 2 nieces Sarah Heinemann (Los Angeles) & Ariana Franklin (Hot
Springs), and her brother in-law Frank Nelson (Philadelphia).
Phyllis grew up in Hot Springs and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Henderson State
Univ. She went on to receive her Doctor of Medicine degree from Univ of Arkansas. She
completed her Pediatric training at Children’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. and started her
practice in Aberdeen, S.D. After 12 years, she returned to Hot Springs where she practiced until
her retirement. There are now a lot of young adults currently living normal lives because of her
medical skill and caring during their most medically desperate times as children.
Phyllis loved traveling with her husband, Russ. They especially enjoyed visiting her brother and
his family throughout the world, wherever the Navy sent them.
Music was always a great love of Phyllis. Growing up, she was a student of retired concert
pianist Helen Futcher. By the time she left high school she was already an exceptionally skilled
classical pianist and continued to play for many years.
But outside of medicine, her greatest love was for her animals. She was active in the Garland
County Humane Society. She never shied away from adopting shelter animals that no one else
would take. Many of these animals were already known to require medically extensive and
expensive veterinary rehab for them to have a normal life.
Phyllis was a long time member of the Hot Springs Elks Lodge.
