Peggy Ann Boatright Putnam passed away on Oct 20 in Hot Springs. Peggy was born to William and Elsie Boatright on May 22, 1932 in Fort Smith, AR, where she spent the majority of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Raymond and her three sisters, Billie, Lucy and Virginia.
She is survived by her loving husband Charles Putnam; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Scott Seller of Hot Springs AR and her son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Claudia Barcelo Putnam of Frisco, TX; her grandchildren, Ali and Beau LeGrand, Corey and Logan LeMaster, Brett and Gretchen Seller, Zac Putnam and Jake Putnam. She was fortunate to meet her great grandchildren, Avery LeMaster, Lottie LeGrand and Charlie Seller.
Peggy enjoyed life, especially her Fort Smith High School class of 1950. She remained lifelong friends with many of her classmates and worked tirelessly on the reunions that she looked so forward to.
When she attended Fort Smith Jr College, the quote in the yearbook was, “Peggy came to JC this year with more pep and personality than four average people could use in a lifetime.” These traits continued throughout her life, even as she entered into years of dementia.
She began working at Fort Chaffee where she would volunteer her talents and enthusiasm with the USO. That is where she met a certain jazz trumpet player who wanted to marry her on their first date. She declined, but he persisted and Charlie and Peggy were fortunate to celebrate almost 71 years of marriage.
Peggy wore many hats and always brought her talents to each endeavor, be it Mrs. Peggy, kindergarten teacher, accountant, homeroom mother, MYF leader, working at Grandma’s Uniques and finally controller of North American Foundry. She was the ultimate working mom who was always ready to bake cookies, decorate windows, or drive kids to ballgames. When she and Charlie moved to Hot Springs, she continued being the involved Mimi, as well as being active at First United Methodist Church. She loved her Knit Wit group, painted backdrops for musicals and was always ready to plan fun activities for Sunday School parties. Her spirit will be remembered.
A celebration of life with be held at First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs on Friday Oct 27th at 1:30. A reception will follow in the Christian Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to FUMC Hot Springs or The Caring Place of Hot Springs.
