Mildred Lucille Sowders, née Norris, 90, of Hot Springs Village, died at approximately 2:45 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2022 at the National Park Medical Center hospice care in Hot Springs, AR.
She was born July 24, 1932, in St. Louis, MO, to Robert Lee and Nellie Opal Norris. She married Jesse Paul “Bush” Sowders Jr. on December 16, 1950, in St Louis, Missouri. Bush preceded her in death in June 2004.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Gene Bush, née Sowders, of Shreveport, LA, and a son, Gary Paul Sowders of Ansbach, Germany. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Sherry Bush Walker, Jodie Bush, Jesse Joseph Sowders, Gary Paul Sowders Jr., Jessica Carol Sowders, and Brian Alexander Sowders - two great grandchildren; Zoe Walker and Alexander Walker - and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mildred was a long-time resident of Hot Springs Village, where she lived since retiring and leaving her childhood home in Berkeley, MO, in 1995.
She was a graduate of Berkeley High School in 1950, and went on to obtain a Bachelors of Science Degree in Education, with a Teaching Certificate from the University of Missouri at St. Louis.
She loved to play the piano, and enjoyed reading and playing board - card games, and did so actively in her retirement years.
She developed a newly found interest in the game of golf after arriving in Hot Springs Village, and was once recognized as Lady Duffer of the Year. Milly and her husband Bush, both served as officers and active members of the “Village Green Bowls Club” for several years.
Also in their retirement years, they shared a mutual love for travel and embarked on many adventures together, exploring the North American and European continents.
An internment service is to be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, 1:00 p.m, at the Woodlands Presbyterian Church, where she was an active member.
In tribute to her memory, donations may be made in lieu of floral gifts to: Woodlands Presbyterian Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Master’s Table of Hot Springs.
Mildred’s cremains will be interned in the Memorial Garden of Woodlands Presbyterian Church.
