Kenneth Schaffer, 92, of Hot Springs, Arkansas passed away on June 17, 2024. He was born May 30, 1932 in Norfolk, Nebraska to the late John Jacob Schaffer and Marie Beitz. He was the youngest of six children.
Kenneth attended Lutheran and public schools in Norfolk. He enlisted in the Navy from March 1952 to March 1956. He served in the Pacific on the USS Los Angles with a tour off the coast of the Korean Peninsula. During his time in the Navy he saw many WWII battle sites. He even crossed the Equator and visited Singapore.
Upon discharge from the Navy, he went to meat cutting school in Toledo, Ohio and graduated as a Journeyman meat cutter. He worked in many different grocery stores as a meat cutter in Nebraska and Colorado.
In 1959 he met the love of his life Doris and got married on October 24, 1959 in Omaha, Nebraska. He went to Denver, Colorado to start housekeeping. A week after getting to Denver, Ken had a job. In Northglenn Ken had a service meat market with a full service meat counter. If he wasn’t working he was fishing! In May 1967 the family moved from Northglenn to Loveland, Colorado.
In Loveland he owned several businesses. In May 1977 the family moved to Polk County, Arkansas. The family were members at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mena. He later retired to Hot Springs, Arkansas in 1999 to be closer to the better medical facilities. Ken and Doris became members of First Lutheran Church.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents; siblings Edna Benck, Donald Schaffer, Lorraine Tapeo, Robert Schaffer, and Mary Ann Wege; and three nephews.
He is survived by his wife Doris (Fisher) Schaffer of 64 years; children Donna Golden, Daniel Schaffer, and Brian Schaffer; grandchildren Charisse (Jeffery) Boshers, Jason (Margarita) Schaffer, Crystal (Michael) Hall, Joshua Schaffer, Meliane (Daniel) Corona, Samantha Burnett, and Katie Schaffer; four great granddaughters; four great grandsons; and a brother in law Robert Wege.
