Jack Thomas Walker, from Magnolia, more recently from Hot Springs, Arkansas, died peacefully on October 2, 2015. He was born in Stephens, Arkansas on December 23, 1930, and was the son of Winston and Vivian Walker. He was raised in Magnolia where he attended high school and then spent his first two college years at Southern State College. He then attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, where he met and married his lifelong sweetheart of 64 years, Sonya Ivey. While at the University he became a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Jack attended the University of Arkansas Medical School, from which he graduated in 1955. He completed his internship and family practice residency at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, before entering the US Army, where he served as a captain in the medical corps while stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Jack and his family returned to Magnolia, where he practiced surgery and family medicine and in later years, emergency medicine. He was an active physician member of the Southwestern Surgical Congress. In Magnolia he served as a Boy Scout leader, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Jaycees and the Rotary Club. He was a thirty-second degree member of the Masonic Order. After retiring, Jack and Sonya moved to Hot Springs, where Jack spent many happy years on his beloved Lake Hamilton. He is survived by his wife, Sonya, his son, Greg, his daughter, Cinde and their spouses. A private family memorial was held to celebrate Jack’s life.
