Dorothy was a registered nurse from Breckenridge School of Nursing in Austin, TX. She worked many years as a school nurse and finished up her career as a company nurse for Sara Lee Hosiery. She was a Master Gardener and a member of Hagarville Extension Club. She most recently was a member of First Baptist Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Dorothy had much that brought her joy in life, the most important being witnessing of her love for Jesus and His love for others. Earlier in life, she was a co-founder of the Pregnancy Help Center in Clarksville, AR, did volunteer work with AIDS patients, and loved working with disabled children and ministering to inmates at the Johnson County jail. She loved to piece together quilts, sew, and read. Most of all, she loved her family. A special memory that will forever be in the hearts of the ones she loved is when she and her husband would take her grandchildren to Camp Peniel in Marble Falls, Texas. Her smile will never be forgotten and she will be missed dearly. She touched many lives….yours may be one of those.
Survivors include her children Nella Spanke (Lionel), Russell Kennedy (Karen), Jane Douglas, and George Kennedy (Elizabeth); Grandchildren Sarah Vanston (David), Jeff Spanke, Ryan Spanke, Dr. Joshua Kennedy (Marci), Zachary Kennedy (Sheridan), Marci Wyche (Matt), Lindsay Box (Daniel), Luke Douglas, Addie Kennedy, and Hallie Kennedy; and a niece, Victoria Wright. She also leaves 16 great grandchildren to cherish her memory as well.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 67 years, Rankin (Doc) Kennedy who passed away in 2019.
