Donald E. Henson, age 91, of Hot Springs, AR, departed this life on Wednesday, June 3, 2015. He was born on November 29, 1923 in Flora, Illinois to William H. and Ollie Henson, and was one of nine siblings.
Loving survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary Jane Henson; one son, Ben (Donna) Henson; two daughters, Nancy (J.M.) Harbert and Loretta Thompson; five grandsons, Dutch (Kathy) Harbert, Chad Harbert, Don (Carrie) Thompson, Ben (Lisa) Henson, Jr., John (Sara) Henson; nine great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A decorated WWII veteran, Don loved Navy life and served in the Pacific Theatre for the country he believed in. He was a powerful swimmer and a heroic survivor of the destroyer USS Mahan DD 364, sunk in battle Dec. 7, 1944. He was honored to be in the Mahan Association with his fellow sailors.
Don worked 17 years for Schlumberger and 12 years for Affiliated Engineers. A tall man, strong and gentle, greatly admired by family and friends for his integrity and honesty.
He loved being outdoors with nature and lived his dream of ranching and farming for 30 years. He cherished his children and grandchildren, who enjoyed his sense of humor, his great storytelling, and his wonderful, constant singing.

He loved his home and will be greatly missed. Saddened by his loss, we know that he has only changed his address and is now at home with his Heavenly Father.
Cremation entrusted to Gross Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
