Clara Newton

Clara L. Newton of Bentonville, and former resident of Hot Springs, Ark., passed away at her home Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021. She was 90 years old. Born Jan. 19, 1931, in Los Animas County, Colorado, to John P. and Nella Mae Arnet, Clara was predeceased by her husband of nearly 61 years, Charles B. Newton, her sisters, Mary Ann Mincic of Trinidad, Co., and Joann Gibson of Parker, Co., and her daughter-in-law, Linda Newton.

Clara graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School and Trinidad State Junior College in Trinidad, Co., with an Associate of Arts degree in business.

Clara met Charles, in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he was stationed in the Air Force. They were married Dec. 24, 1951. During their travels around the world, they raised five children, and finally settled in Hot Springs, Ark., after his retirement from the Air Force. Clara worked for 24 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Ouachita before retiring in 1991. She was a member of The Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist in Hot Springs.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Charles Jr. and Donna Newton of Seneca, S.C., Pete and Carol Newton of Baton Rouge, La., Bruce Newton of Bartow, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law; Elaine and Randy Miller of Bella Vista, Ark., Robin and Steve Bizjack of Dunedin, Fla., three grandsons: Greyson (Amanda) Newton of Baton Rouge, La., Blake (Laura) Miller of Kansas City, Mo., Garrett Newton (fiancée Leslie) of Austin, Texas; three granddaughters: Erin (Craig) Watson of Fort Smith, Ark., Bailey (Kyle) Johnson of Puyallup, Wash., and Bryn Grafton of Dunedin, Fla., and three step-grandsons, Trevor, Skylar and Luke Bizjack of Dunedin, Fla; and six great-grandchildren, Jude, Axel and Liza Miller; Riley and Jackson Newton; and Owen and Roman Watson, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Services are under the direction of Gross Funeral Home. The Rosary will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, 2021, at The Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist, 589 W. Grand Ave., Hot Springs, with visitation immediately following; Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church at 10 a.m. The Rite of Committal and burial follows at 1 p.m. at the Veterans State Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland Avenue, North Little Rock.
