Charles Richard White

Charles R. “Chuck” White, 80, of Hot Springs was born on June 22, 1940 in Northbrook, Illinois to Joseph and Dorothy White and passed away peacefully at CHI hospital in Hot Springs on Friday, January 1, 2021.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his grandson David Micheal White.

Chuck is survived by three sons: Barry White and wife Melissa of Hot Springs, Charles White Jr. and wife Suzanne of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and David White and wife Kristen of Hot Springs; Grandchildren: Stefanie Jones, Sarah Bearden, Chris White, Matthew White, Bradley White, Samantha White, and Ella White; Great Grandchildren: Abigail Jones, Adilynn Jones and Aaron Jones; one brother: Steve White and his wife Linda; one sister: Judy Collier and her husband Jim; his longtime companion: Jean Ellen White; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Chuck graduated from Hot Springs High School, Arkansas State University, the University of Arkansas School of Law. He was a practicing attorney for many years and then served as a teacher, coach, and attorney for his alma mater, the Hot Springs School District.

Chuck touched many lives, especially during his years as an attorney, educator and coach at Hot Springs School District. Stories abound as to Chuck’s dry sense of humor. The Sahara Desert has nothing on Chuck.

When he gave updates on school law during HSSD Professional Development he was in his element. If he was asked a “what if” question he would give a “dead-pan” look and say “I don’t do what-ifs (with an expletive included). I deal in facts. Can you give me a fact?” By that time 2 things had happened…. The participants understood and they were all laughing. Teachers in the district would always look forward to his annual discussions of new education laws because he delivered it in the only way he knew how --- dry with his touch of humor. He would tell anyone who would listen that common sense is your best approach.

During his younger years he was very active coaching youth sports activities that included his sons. He was also a scratch golfer and his drives were high, long, and straight. A fellow golfer said that competitors would be in awe when he would reel off a birdie streak on consecutive holes.

Currently no public services are planned due to the pandemic. His body will be cremated
