December 24, 1936 - September 27, 2024
Mary “Carolyn” Masek passed away peacefully encircled by her family on Friday, September 27, 2024. Carolyn’s life embodied the spirit of genuine love, care and compassion for all. She is survived by her husband, Richard Masek of Hot Springs, Arkansas, her sister Jean Palmer of Hot Springs, Arkansas, her daughters Laura Holiman Thompson (Scott) of Hilton Head, South Carolina and Tina Masek Emerson (Brandon) of Hot Springs, Arkansas and her son, David Andrew Holiman (Tonya) of Prairie Grove, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her sister Linda Byars of Camden, Arkansas and daughters Robin Holiman Zaner and Lisa Masek Matchett. As a grandmother, Carolyn was most loved by 10 adoring grandchildren.
Carolyn was born the eldest child of three daughters to Carl and Iris Swaney of Hot Springs, Arkansas. She excelled in band and piano in her young years. Hot Springs was her home of 87 years excluding only a very few. Throughout her years she worked, along with her mother and aunt, as a floral designer at The House of Flowers. Even in her later years she continued to work along with her sisters to create horse blankets for Arkansas Derby Week.
Carolyn was a true artist known for her skills in drawing, painting, watercolor, textile arts, floral design and gardening. She turned the ordinary into beauty with ease. She was an amazing mother always striving to pass her love and talents along to her children and grandchildren. Her greatest gift was embracing others and drawing them in as extended family. All were always welcome. Her heart was not only in the things she created but in those she created for.
Please join the family for a Celebration of Life that will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs on Saturday, October 5, 2024. Visitation with the family will be 10-11 am followed by a memorial service. Private burial at a later date.
