William George Haughey

He was born January 4, 1947 in Philadelphia, PA to Joseph and Anna Haughey (nee Derricks). He joined the US Army at the age of 17 before transferring into the US Air Force where he proudly served his country for 20 years. After his years of service in our military, Bill joined the US Postal Service until his retirement in 2007.

Bill (also known by his grandchildren as “Grumps” or “Grumpy”) never met a stranger. He loved people and chatting with anyone who would listen. He loved piddling in his yard and was always immensely proud of his garden. He loved golf and Philadelphia sports, especially the Phillies. Most of all, he loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna, his brother Joe and his nephew Frosty. He is survived by his wife Barbara, his 3 sons Kevin (wife Amy), Bobby (fiancé Amanda) and BJ (wife Kelli) and his 5 grandchildren Mitchell and Braeden (Kevin) and Mac, Sarah and Molly (BJ), and his sister Debbie.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Friday December 15, 2023 at 2PM at St Stephen’s the Martyr Catholic Church in Sanford, NC.
