Wanda Picket of Spring Lake, North Carolina was born on March 19th, 1933, and passed away on June 18th, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, CW04 Andrew Pickett, and her son, Garry Walden. She is survived by her granddaughter and great-granddaughter. She is also survived by many close friends, including Philip and Lisa Granish. She will be greatly missed.
Wanda was a registered nurse and spent much of her career providing private, in-home nursing services to those who required it. Later in life she worked as a nurse for the VA Hospital in Raleigh, NC and helped manage her son’s used car business. As the wife of a retired Special Forces officer, she was a strong supporter of the military and especially the US Army’s Special Forces and 82nd Airborne Division. She valued patriotism and was a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump.
Wanda loved country and western music. She enjoyed dancing and prior to becoming ill could regularly be seen in many of the country and western clubs in the Fort Bragg area. For many years she was particularly fond of McKellar’s Lodge, back when it offered live bands and dancing on Friday and Saturday nights.
Wanda will be laid to rest with her husband at the Fort Liberty Main Post Cemetery on Friday, June 28th at 11:00 am. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Wounded Warrior Foundation or the US Army Airborne & Special Operations Museum.
