Bob was born in Greer, S.C., on March 4, 1930. He was the son of the late Robert Thomas Bennett (R.T.) and Sallie Missouri McClimon.
Bob was a proud graduate of Clemson University and he loved his Clemson Tigers. He served in the U.S. Army on active and reserve duty until he retired as a Captain in 1967. Bob was a civil engineer and started his career at the Tennessee Valley Authority before moving to Fayetteville in 1959 where he worked for the city of Fayetteville starting as Assistant City Engineer and then City Engineer until he retired from the City. He then opened his own business, Bennett Engineering and Surveying, where he joyfully worked doing what he loved until his retirement in 2017. Bob left his mark all across Fayetteville by designing many projects for clients who admired and respected his skill and integrity.
Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Ann L. Bennett; one son, Douglas E. Bennett and wife Deborah, two daughters, Lisa B. McDougald and husband, Andrew, and Sherry L. Reynolds; four grandsons, Jonathan Bennett and wife, Nicole, Jeremy Bennett and wife, Shanon, Dusty Rypdahl, and Perry McDougald, and wife Dana; one granddaughter, Anna McDougald and Andrew; five great grandsons, Braxton, Dillon, Michael, Ben, and Bryson, and six great granddaughters, McKenzie, Juniper, Ariel, Ivy, Dakota, and Olivia. He was predeceased by his sister, Jewell Parlier and his son, Wayne Russell Bennett.
Bob was a long-time member of Haymount Methodist Church and a faithful servant of the Lord. He will be remembered for his quiet and selfless giving.
A celebration of life service will be held at Haymount Methodist Church, 1700 Fort Bragg Road, in Fayetteville at 11:00 a.m. on January 23, 2019. Visitation will be at the church at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
