Maureen was born in Boston, Massachusetts on Tuesday, June 2nd, 1953 and grew up in Norwood, Massachusetts. She was raised by her mother Helena and her beloved adoptive father George with her three siblings Roberta, Robert, and Kathleen. While having never met her deceased biological father Douglas MacRae of Everett, Massachusetts as an adult she luckily found joy in forming close and loving relationships with her many aunts, uncles, and cousins who are all part of the wonderful MacRae clan.
Maureen had a genuine passion for caring for others and pursued training to become a licensed practical nurse. When she moved to Illinois she proudly held and maintained her nursing license there from 1976 until 2013. She practiced nursing as both an act of compassion and as a demonstration of her devotion to her Catholic faith. She lived most of her life in Woodridge, Illinois where she raised her family. She spent the twilight of her life in Fayetteville, North Carolina to be near her sister/bestie Roberta and reconnected with her high school sweetheart Alan.
Maureen enjoyed dancing, camping, horseback riding, live music, summer festivals, reading, and her many cats over the years. She found serenity in traveling both locally and cross-country. She would go off-route and at times got lost which was all part of the adventure for her. Most of all she loved spending time with her friends and family. She had particularly special relationships with life-long friends Karen Maestri, Michael Toomey, and Joseph Simokat.
Maureen was excited to be expecting her first grandchild this fall. In her final days, she loved rubbing her daughter's belly to feel her grandson and was often staring at sonogram pictures in admiration.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Christopher Simokat and his wife Yanhong of Plainfield, IL; her daughter, Meagan Dandridge and her husband Curtis of Woodridge, IL; her loving fiance of the home, Alan Howe; her sister, Roberta MacRae of Hope Mills; her nieces, Laura Mussler and her husband Keith of Hope Mills and Nancy Patch and her husband Robert of New Bern, NC; her nephew, Robert Foley, Jr.; great niece, Quandy Rodrigues and great nephews, Roman Gutierrez, Devin Williams and Cameron Ledesma; great-great niece, Alice Fulcher and great-great nephew Asher Gutierrez.
She is preceded in passing by her parents, Helena O'Connor and George Foley; her siblings, Robert Foley and Kathleen Lazarra; her nephew, John MacRae and her great nephew, Joshua Gutierrez.
She will always be loved and be so deeply missed by those who knew her. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests donations be made in Maureen’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
