He was born in Rockingham, North Carolina on September 23, 1937 to John and Edna Pankey.
He worked at Winn-Dixie for 44 years and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of SCV, SAR, and The Wild Life Club. He enjoyed good bluegrass music, studying family genealogy, and could talk about family history for hours. He collected guns and anything having to do with the Civil War, especially confederate money. J.C was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Patricia Sanders Pankey and his
parents John Daniel and Edna Pankey. J.C. leaves behind his son John A. Pankey (Shelly); grandsons Ayden Pankey and Nathan Kuhn; and his brother Raymond Pankey (Beatrice). He also leaves behind his beloved friend Marlene Watson. J.C.’s family invite friends to a visitation in his honor on Friday May 7, 2021 from 6: p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home in Hope Mills, North Carolina. A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday May 8, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Richmond Memorial Park in Rockingham, North Carolina.
