Jessie Mae Moore

Jessie Mae Moore (84), of Hope Mills, NC, passed away on May 19, 2020, at Carolina Rehab Center of Cumberland, in Fayetteville, NC, with her loving husband of 65 years, Sidney Moore, by her side. She was born in Powellsville, NC, on January 7, 1936, to Herman and Lessie (Cherry) Hardy. After her marriage to Sidney in NC, they moved to NJ, where she lived, worked and bore and raised her loving son, Michael Moore. She retired with Sidney to Hope Mills in 2000.

Jessie was a hairdresser and became the owner and operator of a beauty shop in Newark, NJ. She counted the raising and education of her son, though, as a much greater achievement and source of great pride. Above all, Jessie’s life and joy were deeply rooted in her faith and her tireless efforts to study the Bible which, among other things, enabled her to conduct the study groups that she was asked to do throughout the last several years of her life at Carolina Rehab.

Jessie is survived by her husband, Sidney Dunbar Moore; her son, Michael Moore (LisaBookman); her sister, Katie Sue Scales; her brother, Herman Hardy, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Doris and Gladys, and her brothers, Willie Lee, Lewis and Cliff.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2020, at Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
