

He was born on May 23, 1941 to Marvin and Ruby Harrell in Monroe, North Carolina. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf, especially in his younger days. He was an over the road truck driver for over 45 years. He won the MacMillion Mile Safety Award twice in his career. In all 45 years, he never had an accident or got a ticket. Once the children were grown, his wife, Marie, joined him on the road. They visited every state except Hawaii and Alaska and enjoyed every mile together.
Horace is preceded by his parents; his son, Randall Harrell; his siblings, Betty Witchard, Edwin “Buster” Harrell, and Bobby Harrell; as well as his son in law, William Hemingway Jr. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marie Harrell; his children, Juanita Ruth Hemingway and Marty Harrell; his grandchildren, Fred Adkins III, Amanda N. Pfouts, Earl Hemingway, and Christopher Harrell; his great grandchildren, William, Kaiden, Loriann, Brentley, and Weston; his siblings, Sandra McMillian and Elsie Raybron; his dear friend, Darrell Ellison; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was surely greeted at the Pearly Gates by those who went before him, including his friend Charles Hunt, and his loving dog, Sassy.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 5th, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Parkton Cemetery located on Cemetery Street in Parkton, North Carolina. The family invites friends and family to visit after the graveside service at the home of Juanita Hemingway.
