Helen was born in Olla, Louisiana in August 1934 to John and Mary Helen Young. She met and married her husband of 71 years, Dr. Dennis L. Jackson, and moved to North Carolina where they built a life and a family. Helen was fun, effervescent, and kind to everyone she ever came into contact with. She loved children and over the years she welcomed countless children into her home for as long as they needed to stay. She loved gardening, playing golf, time spent at the beach, and shelling. Helen was a member of the choir at Hope Mills United Methodist Church and was known to always be singing throughout the day. She was also an active member of her Sunday school class. Helen raised four children, was a founder of Market House Realtors in Fayetteville, served as the Executive Secretary for the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Examining Board for many years, and also worked for the Boy Scouts of America in their Raleigh office in her early years in North Carolina.
Helen is survived by her husband, Dr. Dennis L. Jackson; three sisters, Lori MacAdams, Joni Faye Boutwell (Gary), and Sheri Mitchell (Ronnie); her children, Elsha Cromer (Al), Dennis L. Jackson Jr. (Myra), Lee Ammons-Prewitt (Tom), and Jessica Gilmore. She was the beloved "Mimi" of 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
Her family would like to express their heartfelt love and gratitude to her care team Gracie Bellinger, Ethel Arauz, Maria Allen, and Brittany Work for their loving kindness throughout her illness. Also, her Hospice care nurse, Molly Horne and the staff at Gentiva Hospice of Lumberton.
A visitation for Helen will be held Monday, July 8, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Hope Mills United Methodist Church, 4955 Legion Road, Hope Mills, North Carolina 28348, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make a donation to St. Jude's Hospital or a charity of your choice.
